Yoga Therapy

In the past decade, modern medicine and scientific studies have documented how body, mind and spirit all closely influence overall health. This concept has been integral to classical yoga for thousands of years, and because yoga addresses the whole individual - physically, mentally, energetically, and spiritually - it provides healing at many different levels. Yoga as therapy is one of the original forms of holistic health management.

Conditions That Improve

Although Satyananda Yoga can improve overall health in a regular class setting, certain conditions improve more quickly with yoga therapy.

  • Back pain, sciatica and disk problems
  • Asthma and other breathing difficulties
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Insomnia and stress related sleep disorders
  • Digestive problems
  • Sinus infections
  • Stress
  • Arthritis, fibromyalgia, and joint pain
  • Immune system disorders
  • Anxiety, depression and panic disorder
  • Postural imbalances
  • Menopause, PMS and menstrual problems
  • Fatigue and lack of energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is Yoga Therapy like physical therapy?

A. No. Although some postures are used in the same manner as in physical therapy, yoga therapy also incorporates breathing practices, relaxation therapy, energy work and various forms of meditation.

Q. How many sessions will I need to see improvement?

A. There is no set number. Each client is given an individualized program for home practice. If the client continues with a dedicated practice at home, improvement can be achieved within a short time, even with one session.

Q. How much does a session cost?

A. A first appointment is 2 hours to assess needs and develop an appropriate program that will work with your condition and time constraints; the investment is $200. Follow-up appointments to adjust or progress a practice may vary but are generally 1 hour long for $120.

Refunds for a Yoga Therapy consultation are available minus a $25 administrative fee if your consultation is canceled more than 48 hours in advance. If canceled less than 48 hours in advance, there is no refund.

Teachers available for Yoga Therapy:

Beverly Roberts Singh,

Swami Atmarupa holds a Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Teaching and has taught yoga since 1995.   She was named an Acharya (master of yoga) by her guru in India in 2015.

Prior to founding the Atma Center, she was a certified registered nurse anesthetist for over 25 years and taught anesthesia for 10  years at  the  Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Her medical background and  her experience teaching  thousands of yoga students over the past 20+ years give her the insight to create  personalized yoga therapy programs that will support and improve the health of nearly any client.

In addition to decades studying Satyananda Yoga, she has also studied Anusara Yoga and done the Facilitator One training in YogaKids.

Swami Atmarupa continues an in-depth study  of yoga, often traveling internationally. She has taught across the US, in India, Colombia, Mexico and Australia.

She is the Education Director and President of the Board of Directors for the Yoga Academy of North America. YANA is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization providing educational and service opportunities to transform lives.

The yoga therapy components of my teaching are based on my medical background and 20+ years of teaching, not derived from my status as an eRYT500 with Yoga Alliance. Yoga Therapy is not a licensed healthcare profession in Ohio.
