Madhuramurti (Martha Loughridge) AYT-L2, RYT, CYTMadhuramurti

Madhuramurti means "Essence of Divine sweetness"

Madhuramurti began practicing Satyananda yoga at the Atma Center in January, 1999. Having taken some yoga classes as a college student in the 1980's, she felt that yoga could help her recover from an illness and heal a knee injury. Since then, yoga has become a part of her life as well as her life study.

Although she resisted being in a teacher's role in her life previously, that inner obstacle was removed as she felt herself being asked to serve as a yoga teacher. Madhuramurti loves teaching yoga and feels it is part of her life path. She was enriched by the opportunity to spend six months studying at the BiharSchool of Yoga in India in 2002, where she passed the four-month certificate course with distinction. While in India, Madhuramurti received karma sannyasa diksha from Paramahamsa Niranjanananda Saraswati. During her Yoga Teacher Training at the Atma Center, Madhuramurti taught yoga to incarcerated women at the Northeast Pre-Release Center for her karma yoga project.

Madhuramurti has traveled extensively. She traveled throughout Europe for several years, living in both Norway and Austria, and she also lived in the Philippines for four months, working with grassroots community organizers. Recently she spent time at Mangrove Mountain in Australia for advanced yoga teacher training. One of her many achievements was bicycling from San Francisco, California, to Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Madhuramurti's latest accomplishment is being mother to a little yogini, Nora.
