SPECIALTY CLASSES:
Back & Core Strength
A fundamental class emphasizing the Pawanmuktasana series and basic asanas that work to release tightness, increase core strength, and develop inner awareness. Although considered the "beginning class", more advanced students often attend to deepen their understanding and abilities.
These classes introduce more asanas and pranayama practices and develop the capacity to sit for meditation. Foundation C includes the practice of Surya Namaskara, also known as Sun Salutation.
These classes are 90-minutes and continue over a 12 week period to more fully develop and progress the practices being taught. Practices include more difficult asanas, a series of pranayama practices that includes bandhas, and longer meditations. The theories of chakras, nadis, mudras, and mantras are explored and practiced. Students should have a home practice at least three days per week to fully participate and learn.
Continuing Yoga is for those students who are interested in integrating yoga more completely into their lives. Includes theory, discussion, and a variety of practices. Enrollment is open every 18 weeks and requires permission from Atmarupa to attend this class. A commitment to a daily home practice is necessary to support both the student's development and the ability to progress the practices within the class setting.
Works specifically with the back and core with a focus on preventing and relieving back issues. NOT for beginners -- must have attended at least 1 full six-week session of yoga at Atma Center before coming to this class.
A can-do class for first-timers, seniors, those with injuries, or anyone living with special challenges, such as limited mobility, or recent surgery. Also great for office workers who would like to learn techniques to do at their desks. Includes gentle movements, breathing techniques and meditation. Safety and ease are primary, with modifications to fit individual needs. Practice on mats or chairs.
Learn more about the energy centers of the body and how different practices affect them.
This class is at the Foundation B level (second level), so some previous experience in yoga is necessary to participate.
These 45-minute classes introduce different types of meditation and provide ideas for developing individual practice. The theory and technique of beginning pratyahara (sensory withdrawal) and dharana (concentration) are taught.
