Soft tissues are muscles, fascias, & joints interwoven with nerve or communication pathways. Your soft tissues are what gets stiff and sometimes painful. Left untreated, these are catalysts for pain, injury and reduced performance.

Swami Atmarupa is the Founder and Director of the Atma Center and has been teaching since 1995. She is one of the founding Yogacharyas of the Yoga Vidya Council of the International Yoga Fellowship Movement at the Bihar School of Yoga in India. She is also the Education Director of the Yoga Academy of North America.

Swami Atmarupa will be one of the main presenters at the First International Yoga Nidra Conference at Kripalu in June 2019, and has presented at Yoga Alliance Conferences, the Omega Institute, and the Himalayan Institute in Pittsburgh. She has also taught internationally in Australia, Colombia, Mexico, and India.

Over the course of several waves of arrival in the U.S. from the 1930’s to the 1990’s, yoga has come to be one of the most popular forms of fitness, movement and mindfulness in America.

As two long-time area studio owners and yoga community builders, we’ve watched students get turned on to yoga, ask questions, and we’ve seen our students plateau. Saturday:

Sunday:

12:00pm-2:00pm: Self Therapy for Tech Neck - (upper body focus)
3:00pm-5:00pm: Self Therapy for Desk-Bound Life - (lower body focus)

 

In this weekend of workshops, you will learn basic anatomy terms and meanings of things you hear in an everyday yoga class. We'll use a full skeleton, video, palpation, self-massage, some handouts, interactive exercises and more to explore the inner architecture of the body: the muscles, joints, bones and fascias and how these multiple layers of the body relate and function as a whole in all your movement practices. In addition to yoga “ alignment”, you will also learn how to spot dysfunctional patterns and tools for how to have greater confidence to self adjust in class.

 

Sunday’s workshops will apply the learning from Saturday and be a combination of self massage with various Roll Model® Method therapy balls, yoga and corrective exercises to supplement your practice.

 

It is recommended that you take the full weekend to get maximum learning, but you may also just enroll in one or both of Sundays workshops if that is what your schedule permits.

**The curriculum is highly recommended for yogis of all levels, yoga teachers, teacher trainees, fitness instructors, coaches, athletes & movement educators of all kinds who desire to improve their anatomical fluency and make it accessible.

This workshop is for Yoga Teachers and Teachers in Training.
 
You are deepening your practice, learning new concepts and techniques. You're excited to share this new knowledge with your students, but when and how will you integrate what you're learning in a way that excites your students, too?
 

This session will look at the adult learners' needs and how the different ways we learn, (auditory, visual, kinesthetic or mixed) can be accommodated in the same class.

 

We will also consider how we use language to convey our message; active vs. passive instructions, concise & accurate language, supportive & encouraging, correct use of Sanskrit terminology, and teacher talking time to enhance the students' experience.
